Services

I help people build their skills and self-awareness in order to change unhelpful cycles.

I am registered to provide 1:1 psychology services to people located in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. I can also work with people in Nunavut, Nova Scotia, Quebec and New Brunswick as those provinces allow psychologists registered in other Canadian provinces to provide services to their residents.

Please see the drop down menus to learn more about my experience and approach.

  • I provide eclectic treatment interventions that are based on credible research. First and foremost, a cognitive-behavioural lens - understanding how our thoughts, emotions, and physiology influence our behaviour. It’s a very effective approach for breaking down overwhelming situations into manageable pieces.

Some people prefer more structure and direction, while some people prefer a less structured approach: we'll talk about this when we first meet. Do you want “homework” and suggestions for more reading and links? If yes, let me know! If no, no problem!

My style is transparent and pragmatic, nonjudgemental and welcoming. I enjoy injecting some humour when the timing seems right.

What is most important to you? What do you want to be different? Let's make a plan.

  • I work with adults 20 years of age and older.

I provide 1:1 therapy services for people with a variety of struggles including anxiety, insomnia, depression, trauma, grief, relationship struggles (romantic, friendships, work, family), and going through life transitions.

I also specialize in “health psychology”. Health psychology is a broad area that includes: making habit changes because of a disease or health crisis, having an overwhelming reaction to physical sensations, and coping with the countless changes that can come with a change in health (pain, fatigue, adjusting to medications, etc). I also work with people who are doing their best to support a loved one with a health struggle.

I do not provide formal comprehensive clinical assessments. For instance, ADHD, memory loss, and applications for disability insurance. I do not work directly with ICBC, WorkSafe BC or other insurance companies.

  • I have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Queen’s University and completed my internship at Ottawa General Hospital. Both programs are accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association.

I have over 25 years of direct clinical experience in both the public and private health care sectors.

I have worked in Ottawa, Yukon, Calgary, and Vancouver at diabetes, hypertension & dyslipidemia, cardiac rehabilitation, heart transplantation, perinatology, and mental health clinics.

I have also been a health entrepreneur for 20+ years. I understand the high's and low's of carrying a high level of responsibility. I am a co-founder of Craving Change Inc, a program for helping people make sustainable behaviour change. Craving Change focuses on “emotional eating” and has been used by over 100 000 people. Thousands of health care professionals have been trained to deliver the program.

I was an Adjunct Professor in the University of Calgary Department Of Psychology from 2008-2011. I served as an active member of the Clinical Research Steering Committee at the Cardiac Wellness Institute in Calgary AB from 2004-2009 and played a key role in developing a cohesive strategy for managing chronic diseases in Alberta as an active member of the Clinical Support Services Adult Lifestyle Education Committee and the Chronic Disease Management Curriculum Redesign Committee. I was a reviewer of the ‘Behavioural and Psychosocial Issues’ Chapter of the Canadian Guidelines for Cardiac Rehabilitation and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention (J. Stone, Editor in Chief).
